On other notes, I've been doing DnD creation contests on the Giant in the Playground forums and so far doing pretty well (lost two, up for winner for two, being highly anticipated for one other), have gotten a writing position for a weekly comic and am in process of getting in contact with the artist who is working on one of my sample scenarios AND gaming is still awesome.

All that I now need is for my brain to absorb information better while studying. ;_;

...and considering the winner, I am happy. Happy that it is not a photo, happy that it is not a photoshopped image or a caption of something, happy that it is not a drawing or painting or something made with Flash. No, it was something LITERARY. And that, my friends, is what I think is awesome.

Awesome because... I myself have come to see DeviantART as something for everything BESIDES the literary. Most of my deviations are literary things, a few poems, a song or two, a single prologue to a story I will likely never finish even if I DO continue it. And when I got on DA just now, I saw THAT. And that changed things for me in my head. It reminded me of why I write.

I write plainly because it is fun. I write because I have ideas and they need to get out. In fact, I get so many ideas in a single day I could never keep track of them all--trust me, I have tried so very very hard. I have a small pile of notebooks full, and then I am still excluding notebooks from school that I wrote in on empty pages when ideas struck me during class. Ideas that have stayed often have evolved into something radically different: ideas for a magic spell to use in a story became a whole character concept, a weapon turned into a vehicle, an anecdote turned into a lifelong quest against evil. Heck, I've stared at tiny spiders in boredom because they were more interesting then my teachers and ended up fantasizing about how they would do things like Frodo Baggins, Harry Potter and Abraham Van Helsing.

Give me a cup of coffee with a drop of cream in it, unstirred, and I will give you a story of a galaxy far, far away where minotaurs battle aliens with purple-and-black striped skin and dreadlocks and beards made of tentacles, each of which is a sentient creature on its own.

I am Dirk, named after my grandfather's grandfather (and a whole line of Dirks before him, but none in-between), and over the course of my life my mind has weaved histories that extend beyond the timespan between my birth and that of my namesake. Writing is not just a thing I do, it is what I am. If I did not write, I truly would go insane.

I know, I used to have therapy because my head felt too full of things inside of it and it hurt me. During therapy that little 8-year-old discovered writing, and he loved it. I will never quit, and when there will come a time when there no longer is any internet, no Microsoft Word or Wordpad programs or any computer at all, or even pens or pencils and paper to write on, then I will simply write my words with my voice as my pen and the air as my paper.

So I have been kinda back from my trip for a while now, so perhaps it's time for a new little entry?

First off: trip = grand. Most time was spent inside, half the days rain fell, luckily everyone had mysteriously taken along computer gear, so we just played games. By the way, did I mention there were nine of us and it was a six-person house? Yeah, that's right. Luckily two extra beds could be secured for some reason, so just one person had to sleep on the kitchen floor.

Rens, we all thank you and your aching back for not forcing that upon us. (Even though we forced it upon you after you had already slept three weeks like that on a trip with your parents. But hey, that's what friends are for!)

We went to the beach twice, though it was rather windy and cold, and one time the red flag was up on the pole, meaning "no swimming". ...they did it anyway.

At any rate, stuff went down when I came back as well, as some of you know. Board I admin moving, study stuff going bad and out of hand, which I am still trying to fix... good thing I don't have health issues also. At least, I *think* I don't have health issues. My body has a strange way of going exactly the other way my mind is going. Sad fact: I have no clue why either. I've been eating healthy, and, uh, "excercising" (more than usual anyhow) and I haven't been near any people with the Mexican flu (or the Bird Flu either, or any other kind of Flu or disease). So I should be all good. I just... am not?

Oh well, things always work out in due time. That's my personal experience. So for now, I'm just gonna go out again.

But I sadly do not know if the spiral is going upwards or downwards. It has made me dizzy to be thrown around in this mad thing, but it has stricken me with inspiration at several occasions, hence why I got to making some more lyrics, however good or bad or ugly they may be.

I must try to get back into spriting or shiz. I wanted to get a complete Nightmare Zero sprite sheet done like AGES ago. (Ages = weeks.) But meh, I will get to that later then I suppose. I still need to figure out some stuff for college. I have a feeling I want to switch over to Law rather than Philosphy by the end of the year. But we'll see. We will always see.
